There are "wreck" dives, also

This is the down-rope of a deeper dive.

We are diving on the wreck "UltraFreeze". It sank in 125 feet of water, thirteen miles out (East) from Key Biscayne. You can get to Key Biscayne by crossing a long toll bridge over the Atlantic Ocean from Miami, Florida.

I am with a frequent diving buddy named Roland. He is diving with a spear gun, and is on the left side of the photo.

I am on your right and have a camera. The silver you see near my right shoulder is a small tank of emergency spare air.

Some spare air is a safety measure I use for deeper diving. The small tank of air could also be passed to another diver.

In a strong current we held the down-rope and pulled ourselves hand over hand, horizonal in the water like flags in a strong wind. The down-rope ends where the dive boat is anchored near the wreck. The bottom current is weaker and swimming is easier.

You need the rope to both descend and ascend, else you would be carried away by the current and come to the surface far from the anchored dive boat. In that case, you would be picked up by our own boat later, or perhaps by a friendly fishing boat that found you on the surface.

You need to carefully plan your dive, and then dive your plan.

For this kind of diving, good diving skills and good diving buddies are essential !!!
